Well at least she speaks her mind
Conversation in the car yesterday:
Mom: See, they moved the clinic into a new building since we were here last year, so I’m not really sure where I’m going …. oh, look. There’s the sign for parking: OU Children’s Physicians Building. This is where we go.
Kendrie: Do you think the person who built the new building really loves OU? And that’s why they named the place after OU?
Mom: No, I think its named that because this is part of the OU Children’s Hospital. Which is tied in somehow to the OU Medical School. So I think the students must come here to practice and that’s why its called that.
Kendrie: Oh, no! Students? I don’t want a bunch of teenagers poking on me today!!

Annual blood test results perfectly normal. One sigh of relief.
First visit with “Life After Cancer” clinic coordinator, to discuss long term plans, perfectly normal. No current signs of late term issues. Two sighs of relief.
Found out annual echocardiogram (because one of the chemo drugs, adriamycin, is known to cause heart problems) is actually only done every two or three years. Kendrie’s results last year were normal, so she did not have to have one yesterday. At this point we had already been in the clinic three hours, so to hear we could skip the EKG, elicted another sigh of relief, from both of us.
Discussed and agreed that neuro-psych tests at this time are probably not necessary, but might prove helpful in the future. Decision made to get testing done. Sigh of disappointment when coordinator tells me that although it does relate to her ability to organize and prioritize, it will NOT magically improve Kendrie’s desire to keep her bedroom clean.

SO, SO, SO, SO happy to hear about all of Kendrie’s test results today. Think of you all often, and LOVE checking in with you a couple times a week on the blog. Though of you when I tried to move a piece of furniture from my living room to the boy’s room so we’d have room for the Christmas tree. It got stuck in the hallway, and I thought, “Where is Blaine and Kristie’s bro-in-law when I need them?!”

Glad to hear..and it is interesting to hear what other clinics do… ours has no “Life After Cancer” clinic. We do the echo every 5 years and ekg..she has never had one..(was told it was doxirubison spelled very wrong)..has not had a neuro-psych in several years and no plans at this time. She is to have the echo next visit, so in a year…was also told to start vit D for her…
but isn’t it nice to know we have “normal” kids now…

I’m so happy for Kendrie!!! It’s great to hear the good stories. We’ve done the neuro-psych. Clayton has many of the classic long term problems. But more than that, Long Term Cognivitve Effects do not qualify you for an IEP. (Which he desperately needed.) We had to have him diagnosed with another issue to get him qualified. I never thought I’d be happy that my kid has so many issues!!

God Bless! It’s great to hear of the postive results.
