I can’t escape it
Last week, after our family photo session, we took the kids out to dinner. There is a bbq place in town that we love. Its decorated in a down-home-rustic-barn sort of way, the food is awesome, and we know the owners personally, so its always a good feeling to support an independent, local business. Plus, they have a soft-serve ice cream cone machine, so the kids are always game to eat there. My children clearly understand what is important in life.
Wednesday night we were sitting at our table waiting for our food to arrive when the waitress walked over to the table. She took our drink orders, but looked at me funny for just a minute, sort of cocking her head to one side, like I looked familiar.
“You go to Sonic a lot, don’t you?” she asked.
“Uhhhhhhhhhh, yeah.” I replied, wondering how on earth the waitress from Swadleys would know that I go to Sonic. I mean, sure, the two restaurants are right next door to one another, but its not like I think she sits and stares out the window at the cars that go by each day.
“You drive a tan mini-van, right?” she asked.
“How do you *know* this??” I wondered out loud, suddenly worried that I had rear-ended her in the Sonic parking lot or something, and had no memory of the event.
“Oh, I work at Sonic during the day and here at night. I recognize you from the drive in window.” she said with a smile.
Blaine just looked at me and shook his head, rolling his eyes all the while.
Its pretty bad when the wait staff at OTHER restaurants can place you, just by your face, according to how many times a day you drive through Sonic.
::sheepish embarrassment::

I seriously thought you were going to say she recognized you from your blog…either that or the Sonic. LOL.
We’ve driven by Swadleys when we’ve been up there before, and my fiance has commented that we should stop. We’ve tried lots of bbq here in OK (liked and really liked much of it), but he has yet to find one that he can proclaim the “best” (and that includes Jakes in Chickasha). Now that I “know” someone who has been and likes it, we will be sure to try it out very soon

No, its lovely Kirstie. It means you live in a small town and are part of a community. When then Barista at my local coffee place recognizes me it warms the cockles of my heart as I live a huge city.

When I first moved to Hong Kong there weren’t any coffee shops and my client’s office didn’t have coffee either. I would buy 2 large cups from McDonalds when I got off the train, fill up my thermos and go to work.
One afternoon I am headed to the train station with my client and this woman walking towards us is waving and shouting “Hello”! Took me a while to realise that’s the lady I buy the coffee from every day. The only one to figure out my pantomime for 2 – LARGE – coffee – TOGO. From that day on, she could see me walking from the train and would have the coffee waiting. Just call it good customer service.

That’s okay. We are known by name (first names at that) by the manager of a local mexican food place and we don’t even have to show the web coupon at the pizza place we go there so often

Hahahaha. Yeah, the delivery guy from Pizza Hut got to know us pretty well and when I ran into him at the grocery store he acted like we were best buddies.

Ha! In college I went to a sandwich & ice cream shop. Apparently I went there a lot more than realized because one day one of the ladies said, “Oh hi! You got your haircut. I love it!” I wanted to sink under the table–I was on a date!

I love it! Diet Dr. Pepper has to hire you for a commercial. They just have to.
