Futile

We have planned and implemented a major  upstairs remodel job around the goal of converting our downstairs master bedroom into a den.  What the contractor promised would be a five or six day job is now going on week three with no real end in sight.  I guess its hard to make progress when you don’t show up to work before noon every day.  And while that doesn’t actually upset me that much, I am getting tired of the chaos.  The kids have been sleeping on the sofas downstairs, on mattresses on the floor, and in the living room recliner for two weeks now.  I do laundry, but there’s no real point because there is no place to put it.  We had to empty out the kids’ bedrooms, and store their stuff in the extra room that is to become the upstairs master bedroom, but we can’t finish moving everything until the remodel is done.  We need to get space A finished so we can move the crap from space B to space A so we can move the stuff from space C to space B so we can have our new furniture delivered.  Clear as mud?

In anticipation of getting our “den” started, we bought a new sofa.  Which was delivered today.  Which perfectly matches our other sofa, and I was thrilled to get because apparently this style has been discontinued and they found only one left in a warehouse in Tulsa and so I snagged it at a discount and felt quite smug about doing so.

Until the delivery men today walked in the house, took one look at the door frames between the front door and the master bedroom/den, and announced “no freakin’ way” would the sofa fit.

And whether they were right, or they just didn’t try hard enough, I don’t know, but I now have an extra sofa standing on its end in my dining room.  With a matching sofa in the living room, that ALSO will apparently not fit through the door frame.

Surprisingly, bursting into tears in front of the delivery men accomplished nothing.

In preparation for getting the new sofa in the den, Blaine delivered our old bedroom furniture to a local thrift store this afternoon.  Which means we will be joining the kids on mattresses on the floor.  Or I guess we could unfold the sleeper sofa that is now in the dining room.

I consider myself fairly easy going, and I understand that in the big picture, this is not important.

But when sofa delivery men can reduce me to tears, I think its time for the remodel project to be finished.

I am sorry Kristie…construction workers have never been great to us either…one time leaving a hole in the house for over a week, when it was to be one night. Lets just say the mice were happy about it…anyway for the couch bet they did not try very hard.

    Hang in there..hugs

Can you remove the window to get it in that way? We’ve had to do that before and it really wasn’t all that big of a deal. I hope you get it worked out somehow. Sounds like a great plan once you get it worked out. I can’t imagine wanting the master upstairs, though. I wish that our master was on the main level. Luckily, our house is a split level so we don’t have to go up too many stairs. Good luck!
